From the President

Welcome fellow curlers:

On behalf of your Executive committee, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2018-19 curling season. I am very honoured to have been selected as your President and am looking forward to this year.

The Juan de Fuca Curling Centre Association is a volunteer-run curling centre that plays in the 8-sheet facility at the West Shore Parks and Recreation Centre in Colwood.  Although we are on the West Shore, we welcome members from all areas of greater Victoria.

The 2018-19 season will be Juan de Fuca Curling Centre’s 43rd season and it aims to be a very exciting one.

1.   We will be hosting a Club Coach workshop 29-30 September 2018. If you wish to register, please do through this link https://www.curlbc.ca/club-coach-jdf/. (Cost per person is $157.50)

2.  The Junior Program is still in need of a full time representative. Our Junior program is aimed at curlers ages 8-20 and runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30 pm. If you would like to volunteer for this position, please let a member of our Executive know soonest.

3.  We are very pleased to be hosting the U18 BC Provincials 12-17 March 2019. We have had a few people come forward to volunteer to assist in organizing this event. We still need many more to make this event a success. If you are interested, please send me an email as I will be scheduling a get together of all those who have volunteered in early October 2018.

On another note, you will notice a few changes to the ice this year. The yellow ropes and on-ice benches have been retired. There will be house separators which will span 17.5 feet. They will be 2 feet above top 12 to 3.5 feet behind back 12. Also, there will be will chairs against the glass for those that wish to sit during play. By removing the ropes, this will allow the ice makers to more easily clean and scrape the ice.

Again, welcome to a new year of curling and I look forward to meeting each one of you throughout the season.
